Requirements

Sturdy hiking shoes, water, snack, sun protection, mosquito protection. Also bring sense of adventure and a willingness to travel up and down steep slopes with steps and ropes for hand rails.

Site Visit Description
Group will meet at National Park Visitor Center (VC) in Pago Pago at 8am and travel to Vatia, in the heart of the park, 45 minutes away. Some space in park vehicles will be available, but members of the group will be encouraged to carpool. A guided hike will take the group along the Tuafanua trail. The guides will be park rangers versed on subsistence use in the park and will lead discussions about land and sea based subsistence, both traditional and contemporary.
